Common Conditions We Treat
Is Your Pain on This List?
These are among the most frequent conditions our podiatrists diagnose and treat every day. If something sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and more importantly, there is a solution.
Plantar Fasciitis
Sharp heel pain, particularly in the morning. Orthotics unload the fascia and redistribute pressure to allow proper healing.
Bunion Management
Redistributes pressure away from the big toe joint (Hallux Valgus) to slow progression and alleviate daily pain.
Knee & Hip Pain
Relieves stress caused by excessive internal leg rotation by neutralizing gait abnormalities at the foundation.
Achilles Tendinitis
Specific orthotic support reduces strain on the Achilles tendon, providing relief while you stay active.
Shin Splints
Often linked to overpronation; corrective orthotics realign your foot strike and significantly reduce tibial stress.
Flat Feet & Arch Pain
Restores natural alignment to collapsed arches, relieving strain that radiates up to the knees and lower back.
Metatarsalgia
Offloads pressure from the ball of the foot using clinical pads, providing immediate relief from burning sensations.
Arthritis Management
Cushions and stabilises affected joints, helping to manage daily swelling and slowing joint stress.
Why Orthotics Work
Altering Kinetics: How Orthotics Work
Dillon Podiatry uses advanced Foot scanning technology to prescribe orthotics that modify the forces and stresses acting on your foot, ankle, and lower limbs—rather than simply “cushioning” the problem.
-
Kinetic Modification They alter kinetics by modifying how forces and stresses act on the lower limbs, going beyond skeletal correction.
-
Biomechanical Realignment Corrects excessive pronation (rolling inward) or supination to restore your foot and leg's natural biomechanics.
-
Internal Rotation Control Targeted support controls excessive internal leg rotation—the root cause of most chronic knee and hip pain.
-
Pressure Redistribution Redistributes weight away from painful 'hot spots' like the heel or ball of the foot, reducing strain on joints.

Your Journey to Pain-Free Movement
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Every orthotic we prescribe starts with a thorough, unhurried clinical assessment. No guesswork — just evidence-based care tailored to you.
Detailed History
We begin by understanding your pain, your lifestyle, your footwear habits, and any previous treatments you've tried.
Biomechanical Assessment
A full clinical examination of your posture, joint range of motion, muscle strength, and foot structure.
Gait Analysis
We observe and analyse how you walk and run — identifying the exact movement patterns causing your pain.
Orthotic Prescription
Using digital scans and clinical data, your custom orthotics are precisely prescribed and manufactured for your unique foot.
Follow-Up & Refinement
We review your progress and fine-tune your orthotics to ensure optimal comfort and clinical outcomes.
Functional vs. Accommodative Orthotics
Functional Orthotics
Firmer designs engineered to actively correct the foot's motion and gait abnormalities by altering kinetics.
Accommodative Orthotics
Softer designs focused on cushioning and supporting structural abnormalities to provide maximum shock absorption.

Your Questions Answered
How are custom orthotics different from shop-bought insoles?
Shop-bought insoles are mass-produced for a generic foot shape. Custom orthotics are cast or scanned directly from your foot and prescribed to address your specific biomechanical needs — the difference in clinical outcome is significant.
How long does it take to get my orthotics after the appointment?
Typically 2–3 weeks from your assessment. We'll contact you as soon as they arrive at the clinic for a fitting appointment to ensure perfect comfort and function.
Will my orthotics fit in my regular shoes?
In most cases, yes. We take into account your footwear preferences during the assessment. We offer orthotics for sports shoes, casual footwear, dress shoes, and work boots.
Is a podiatrist visit covered by health insurance in Ireland?
Many health insurance plans in Ireland — including VHI, Laya, and Irish Life — offer podiatry benefits. We recommend checking your policy in advance. We can provide receipts for insurance purposes.
